Iron Chloride occurs naturally in the atmosphere as a salt aerosol produced by the reaction of hydrogen chloride and iron oxide.  In the presence of sunlight iron chloride releases a chlorine atom which goes hunting for greenhouse gases such as methane, low level ozone and others, breaking them down.  A new chlorine atom rejoins the iron chloride overnight for the same process to repeat, until the aerosol falls with the rain and fertilizes the land and ocean. Iron salt aerosol was a main factor in planetary cooling in the ice ages. We want to find out if it makes sense to increase the level of ISA in the air, utilising atmospheric chemistry as a safe and simple way to help cool the planet.
